Who we are
Founded in 2015, the West Michigan Offshore (WMO) powerboat club welcomes all boating enthusiasts, whether you own a boat, admire them from the shore, or simply appreciate the engineering and power they embody. Our slogan, “Driven forward by our passion, fueled by giving back,” perfectly encapsulates the club’s mission. WMO is a 501(c)(7) nonprofit organization born from a shared passion for boating and a commitment to giving back to the community.
WMO unites West Michigan’s vibrant go-fast boating community both on and off the water. With 12 ports of call along the stunning Gold Coast of West Michigan, our region offers unparalleled opportunities for boating enthusiasts to connect and enjoy their passion. Many members embrace the boating lifestyle and share a love for the offshore world.
Our club hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the Muskegon Powerboat Weekend, Rock the Coast Weekend featuring professional aerial photography, and the WMO East Jordan Play the River Poker Run, WMO Fall fun Run, among others. These events are meticulously organized, inclusive, and open to all boating enthusiasts, ensuring a first-class experience for participants.
Membership is required to participate in WMO events and is designed to be affordable for all boaters. By becoming a member, you’ll gain access to exclusive events, industry connections, and resources that promote and support the powerboating community in West Michigan.
As a 501(c)(7) nonprofit, WMO prioritizes charitable giving alongside fostering a strong boating community. Our volunteer board members generously donate their time and resources to further the club’s mission. There are no paid positions within WMO—only a dedicated infrastructure designed to protect and support both members and board members alike.
WMO is as committed to enhancing the local community as it is to advancing the powerboating culture in West Michigan. We take great pride in our positive impact and in fostering connections among boating enthusiasts who share our passion.
Jon Vanderwiel - President
Jon’s been on the board since 2024 and lives for time on the water. Boating isn’t just something he does on weekends — it’s part of who he is. Wide-open runs, the sound of the engines, and getting away from everything else is what it’s all about. Whether he’s pushing the throttle, lining up to race, or kicking back with friends, there’s nothing better than a solid day on the boat.

Brian has served on the board since 2024. Boating is more than a hobby—it's a way of life. The thrill of the open water, the sound of the waves, and the freedom to explore make every moment unforgettable. Whether you're cruising, racing, or just relaxing, there's nothing like the boating experience.
